O sangue precorre dois trajectos diferentes, passando duas vezes pelo coração. há mistura parcial de sangue venoso e arterial no ventrículo. As trocas ocorrem directamente entre as células e o meio externo. Nos animais mais complexos, verifica-se o desenvolvimento de um sistema circulatório constituido pelos seguintes elementos:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;um fluido circulante, o sangue;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;um conjunto de tubos ou espaços por onde o fluido circula, vasos sanguíneos e lacunas;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;um orgão propulsor, o coração.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;br /&gt;O &lt;strong&gt;coração&lt;/strong&gt; fornece energia para a circulação. O &lt;strong&gt;sangue&lt;/strong&gt; sai do coração por &lt;strong&gt;artérias&lt;/strong&gt;.
